“And ye must practice virtue and holiness before me continually.” -D&C 46:33
Ask God for gifts of the spirit which can make us more holy. Seek gifts of the spirit.
“I am able to make you Holy.” D&C 60:7
Holiness: 3-day challenge
Day 1: Smile. When smiling was not on my mind, or something I would otherwise have naturally done. It feels good to smile. It’s like working out. Sometimes I don’t want to, but I’m always glad when I do.
Day 2: Swim. I don’t love getting in the pool and I especially don’t love hot tubs and I really wasn’t looking forward to going outside (at the Chateau) in the snow to get to both. But I did. The boys were delighted, I was pleasantly surprised with salt rather than chlorine water, and it was fun. Glad I did it.
Day 3: in addition to reminding myself to smile 7-8 times more than I otherwise would have, I was surprised with the small and simple thing that stood out to me today, and it involved biting my tongue. I wanted to say a critical comment about a new traffic light near our house in Highland, and often I would have. But today I said, well, nothing. Which gave me a sense of satisfaction and peace.
Sometimes a holy woman will say or do something. And sometimes she will refrain.
Day 4: I felt like I should drive with an ounce of holiness. I succeeded 1 out of my 15 or more attempts.
I did succeed at being a more attentive wife by stopping everything I was doing and greeting Mike with a hug and a kiss when he got home from work. He liked it.
Day 5: It probably helps that I drove less today, but I was a more courteous, patient, and safe driver today.
Day 6: I made a lot of connections with my boys today. I find it challenging to find a balance between being available and making a point to make connections vs. keeping up with everything and everyone else. I enjoyed the time with my boys, but I admit that I feel a little worn out.
What would a holy women do?
-Put aside ALL distractions and PLAY with my boys.
-Be more kind to Mike. Serve him. Truly CARE about him and what makes him happy.
